On behalf of the Sobey Art Foundation Chair, Rob Sobey, we are thrilled to announce the exhibition Generations: The Sobey Family and Canadian Art. This exhibition tells the story of the Sobey family’s visionary engagement with Canadian and Indigenous art and includes 175 works from across various Sobey family collections, family gifts to public institutions, as well as the Sobey Art Foundation collection.  This nationally touring exhibition began at the McMichael Canadian Art Collection in Kleinburg, Ontario. From the McMichael, the exhibition will travel to:

  • The Rooms - St. John’s, Newfoundland
  • Art Gallery of Alberta – Edmonton, Alberta
  • Confederation Centre of the Arts – Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island  June 10 – September 10, 2023
  • Art Gallery of Nova Scotia – Halifax, Nova Scotia  October 12, 2023 – January 14, 2024

We are delighted to be able to share this magnificent collection of Canadian art, making it accessible to diverse audiences across the country. As much of the art included in Generations: The Sobey Family and Canadian Art is on loan from the Crombie Collection, tours of Crombie House will not be available.  We hope that you will have the opportunity to view the Exhibition at one of the galleries mentioned above as it makes its way across Canada.

"The McMichael is a treasure. The new exhibit featuring the Sobey’s collection is so good and so extensive I will need to return soon."
